Hiking special
With the hiking special “WaldSkulpturenWeg Wittgenstein-Sauerland”, the New CAPITOL offers an attractive hiking weekend from May 30 – June 01 2025.
The excursion will be led by hiking expert Rüdiger Grebe. What is special about the sculptures? How are the sculptures integrated into nature? What could have been the artists’ intentions? Rüdiger Grebe will discuss and answer these and other questions in an interactive dialogue with the participants. Hiking expert Rüdiger Grebe has designed various hiking trails and a cycle path in Bad Berleburg. Their certification was the basis for Bad Berleburg being recognised as a premium hiking destination, and currently there are only three of them in Germany. Rüdiger Grebe followed the “WaldSkulpturenWeg Wittgenstein-Sauerland” project from its beginnings to its completion and got to know most of the artists personally as well.

9.30 a.m. – Handing out packed lunch / transfer from Bad Berleburg to Kühhude on the Rothaarsteig.
A guided hike to the sculptures
- Kein leichtes Spiel (Ansgar Nierhoff)
- Stein-Zeit-Mensch (Nils-Udo)
- The Monument of the lost Falcon (Alan Sonfist)
- Die Grünstation (Gloria Friedmann)
- Das goldene Ei (Magdalena Jetelová)
- Der Wettbewerb (Jochen Gerz)
The route is 12 kilometres long and takes around 4 hours to walk. There are also stops at the sculptures. A break with refreshments (snacks/drinks) is planned at the sculpture “Grünstation” at around 1.00 pm. Return to the hotel at approx. 3.30 pm. The route runs along paved forest paths. Medium level of difficulty – no significant climbs. Hiking equipment is required (backpack).

Wittgenstein roast venison | jus | champagne cabbage | potato dumplings
Vegetarian/vegan version of the main course:
